Each year I like to do some sort of challenge. I have always done it since I was a kid. Whether it was giving up pop, meat, snickers, or limiting myself to one prop purchase a month. Sometimes, after the year I go right back to it, others, like pop, I never went back to it.
This year I decided that I won't buy any digital assets. Which means, for the composites I do, I will use the digital backgrounds and assets that I already have or make/draw my own. I have purchased so many digital backgrounds/assets and I tend to only use them once, so this will be a good challenge for me. This year I took part in a composite prompt group. Each week we would get a prompt and would create a composite to go along with it. Here are my 52! It was a neat thing to do because it made me jump out of my comfort zone. What I found funny was the last prompt was "my voice" and I did a simple composite because that is what I like the best. Ones that look like they could be real. However, when going through the 52 my favorites were ones that could no be real! Here are a few of my favorites.
Sitter sessions are one of my favorite sessions, so much personality and energy. This little man came in this morning full of spunk and cuteness. I love to see all the different faces they make. Usually, the biggest smiles come from looking at mom though and I just be really loud and silly to bring their attention to me for a split second!
I didn't have too many sitter sessions this year which was surprising to me as they are normally one of my more popular sessions. I even went through my client closet and got rid of some outfits because I just wasn't utilizing them. Hopefully next year I will see more little sitter clients. I have a hard time keeping things around that I am not using. I still a collection of my favorite outfits and classic outfits that I keep telling myself to hang on to, that the economy will pick up and so will sessions! The "get rid of everything we aren't using" person inside me is struggling with the whole wait and see part though! Christmas mini sessions are going up today! I look forward to seeing your beautiful faces this year to help usher in the holiday season!
I love to be creative. It keeps my mind healthy. However, sometimes the creative side gets tired and just doesn't want to wake up in the morning. I can feel when my creative bowl is getting empty. My passion starts to fade. So how do I fill it back up? I do something just for me. I create something different from my norm. Last year my bowl got very empty, I blame the changes and challenges that came with the pandemic. I knew if I wanted to keep going with my business, I needed to fill my bowl. I started playing around with composites during Christmas time. I knew there was still much to learn but I enjoyed the ability of putting a baby into any scene without purchasing a lot of props. I didn't have to figure out how to put a baby on a shelf, I could just lay them on a fur and then sit there in my pajamas with a cookie and composite the two together. I love the excitement from parents seeing a picture that they had no clue they would be getting. I love learning new things. I love that with the composites the options are endless. Really my imagination and my photo shop skills are the only thing that limits my options. Some of them turn out great, some of them teach me something or show me something I need to learn. This image is what really sparked my passion and made me want to learn more and keep on playing with composites. Below are a few of my favorites from this year...
